I spent some time going through hundreds of social news sites and came up with a list of sites which I think are worth exploring. Each site on this list is evaluated according to various criteria, including the no. of votes for each story and the frequency/date of submissions, all of which are indicators of user/viewer activity.

This list is not meant to be comprehensive. It doesn’t include every social news website out there but only the ones which I think has potential for providing you with relevant/fresh news while giving exposure to your ideas, brand or website.

Some of the sites on this list have a broad topical focus while others are created to cater to a specific niche. I’ve divided the list into two portions: General Social News or websites which cover a wide variety of news and Niche Social News which refers to specialized sites that only focus on a limited range of niche topics.

This list purely consists of English social news sites. There are no social bookmarking or social network sites included. I’ve not included video sharing sites because I’ll be writing more on them and video marketing in a future article.

Here’s a brief definition of social news sites, in case you’re unfamiliar with them:

Social News websites are communities which allow its users to submit news stories, articles and media (videos/pictures) and share them with other users or the general public. Some of these articles will be given more visibility, depending on various factors such as the number of user votes for each item.

Apart from counting registered user votes, some social news websites employ human editors to determine the visibility of each news item. Certain stories will be removed from the website while others may be given a ‘featured‘ position if the story is highly relevant and news worthy.

Bookmarks show how a site is perceived, and when these sites allow voting, they also show the engines or whatever classification system which monitors voting, how people feel about the quality of the site. Furthermore, social bookmarking can introduce a site to the search engines, as in some cases, people may find and bookmark a site or a site’s internal pages before a search engine can find those pages via another form of inbound link.

Monitoring social bookmarking services like Del.icio.us, StumbleUpon and Ma.gnolia can help search engines in multiple ways by:
Indexing Sites Faster : Humans bookmark sites launched by their friends or colleagues before a search engine bot can find them.
Deeper Indexing : Many pages bookmarked are deep into sites and sometimes not as easily linked to by others, found via bad or nonexistent site navigation or linked to from external pages.
Measuring Quality : Essentially if more users bookmark a page, the more quality and relevance that site has. A site with multiple bookmarks across multiple bookmarking services by multiple users is much more of an authority than a site with only several bookmarks by the same user.
External Meta Data : Users who bookmark sites tag them with keywords and descriptions which add an honest and unbiased definition which is created by the public and not the owner of the site.
Co Citation : Social bookmarking sites tend to categorize sites and pages based upon the tags used by humans to describe the site; therefore search algortihms can classify these sites with their peers.
Number of Votes : Similar to the number of bookmarks, the more votes a page receives on Digg or Reddit, the more useful that information usually is. If the same page receives multiple votes across multiple social news voting sites, the higher quality the site.
Categorization : Like Co Citation, categorization can help define the subject of a site, therefore better helping the engine address searcher intent.

To help share the wealth of social bookmarking, I’ve put together a list of 125 social bookmarking sites, some of which are very popular and others which are newer or somewhat unheard of. But besides targeting the major social bookmarking and tagging sites which are listed above, you will find some diamonds in the rough which are niche oriented or treated well by Google and other search engines. 5 Quick Ways to Spot an Internet Business Fraud

Few, if any, legitimate internet businesses hiring at home workers will ask for any money up front to work for them. Sometimes the website may not be an actual work from home job but actually a service that simply gets you in contact with businesses looking to hire people to work from home. Few people will actually be able to find regular work through these and any that are charging a high fee up front should be avoided. Like any other job, you should rarely be charged up front to start working for an internet business.

Avoid websites with little or no specific information. Also try and confirm any information on the website from independent reviewers. Many scammers will set up a website but few are around long enough to be able to put up fake information on other websites. Using search engines to find more information can be a good way to avoid internet business hoaxes.

When you are considering working for an internet business or buying programs to start your own business, beware of websites that promise lots of money for very little. Like everything else, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. If something paid well and did not involve much work, everyone would do it. So if you are being promised thousands of dollars per day or even per week with little or no money or time invested up front it may be a scam.

Work from home internet businesses, like any other job, should offer help and support to their employees. If you cannot find a way to contact your "employer" it may be a bad sign. After all, if it is a hoax they will want to avoid doing unnecessary work by checking emails or answering phone calls. Generally they will want take your money or information and move on to the next victim.

In the end, go with your gut. It may be an old saying but you need to remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Nobody pays hundreds or thousands of dollars daily or weekly for little or no work. There are legitimate businesses out there but there are also many hoaxes and scams. Think before signing up for anything, giving anyone money, or handing out your personal information. Work from home does exist but it is work. You will earn your money and not have it simply handed to you like the hoax internet businesses claim.
Discover how to build your own autopilot internet business that earns $1,000s every month within 8 to 12 weeks. (Seriously, this is something we've helped *thousands* of people do.) Start living the life you want. Enjoy your freedom. Kill your day job. Create an online business starting right now. How? That's easy... Read our blog for our step-by-step system:

What Every Blogger Needs to Know in Order to Make Big Money With a Blog

There are 3 basic rules to make money blogging. These are simple but complicated in their own right, because they can and should be expanded upon over and over again. Obviously, if you want to be super successful, you're going to have to look into these rules a much deeper, but hopefully this will get you started.

See, I was just like you. A blogger with something to talk about. But I needed money too. We can't just sit in our basements writing all day and expect the cash to flow. That's not how it works.

But what I realized was that the more people who read my blog, the more influence I could have and the more money I could make. That's a win-win situation for everybody. If my blog was just sitting there and nobody was reading it, I wouldn't make any money and nobody would be effected by the words on the page.

So the first rule to make money blogging is: You need traffic/visitors/readers, whatever you want to call it. If you don't have people coming to your blog, then you have nothing but some words on a page that nobody will ever see.

Getting traffic is no easy thing. You can pay for it... but is that really the type of traffic you want to drive to your blog? The absolute best traffic that you can get is from the "natural" search engine listings on Google. You are literally catching people in the act of looking for information. When they find your website, you will be johnny on the spot with the info they were looking for.

Of course, getting on the first page of Google is complicated. But once you learn how to do it correctly, you actually have the upper hand! Because Google absolutely loves blogs. They look at blogs as providing specialized information that their customers are looking for. So you're on the right track. Once you figure out the search engine optimization part, you're way down that track, headed for the gold.

The second rule to make money blogging is: You need great content. You've heard it before, content is king. Really, I think it's one of the 3 kings here, but that's just semantics. But this shouldn't be a problem. You wanted to write a blog in the first place. If you're not really wanting to write, that's not a problem either - there are plenty of cheap workers who will write content for you. Either way, your blog will need great content so Google AND your human visitors will love your website.

The third rule to make money blogging is: You need to monetize your website. Well, duh, you want to make money. So you have to figure out a way to generate income from your visitors. There are 1000 ways to do this. You can sell your own product, sell somebody else's, or even put AdSense on your website so if people click on ads, you get paid.

Out of the 3 of these, there isn't 1 that is the most important. They're all integral parts of the process and you have to do the best you can to maximize and optimize all the of the rules. For example, you can monetize and write content all you want, but if you don't have readers, do you really have anything at all? If you have traffic and content but you haven't figured out a way to turn those readers into traffic, now what do you have? A bunch of satisfied readers and an empty wallet.
